Mr. Gay World from Ireland visits Manila

A MYKIRU EXCLUSIVE

Max Krzyzanowski, the 2009 Mr. Gay World titleholder from Ireland, is in Manila right now to show his support for the Mr. Gay World Philippines 2009 pageant.

He arrived yesterday morning and so far, Max finds his first-time visit in the Philippines fantastic.

"I have been shown wonderful hospitality by everyone, and I am very impressed by the candidates in the competition," Max told Mykiru.

He actually has nothing but nice words to the Filipino gay candidates.

"The guys are very focused and friendly. They have presented themselves admirably so far," he added.

But when asked about who among the 19 candidates is his choice for the title, Max refused to tell Mykiru his bet, "Lol, I'm afraid... my lips are sealed."

He however gave a sound advice to the contestants.

"My advice to the men is: relax, enjoy the contest, and remember that it is important to focus on presenting yourself well. Winning should not be your immediate goal," he continued.

According to Max, each country's delegate brings many unique qualities. He said that a country's representative to the Mr. Gay World pageant should represent the ideal of openness, integrity and must uphold the goal of equality for gay people throughout the world.

Very well said Max!

Max is the first ever Mr. Gay World being crowned. He won the title last February in Canada.

Prior to the Philippines, he had been to Canada, Australia and Norway to promote the pageant which will have its 2nd edition in February 2010.

And for his Manila visit, he, along with the Mr. Gay World Philippines '09 candidates, has taped for Master Showman with Kuya Germs yesterday (which will be shown next Saturday on GMA 7).

He also graced the pageant's casual-wear round competition held last night.

Tonight, Max and the candidates will be featured at The Library in Malate.

Unfortunately, Max won't be able to witness the crowning of the new Mr. Gay World Philippines on October 25 because the crowning of Mr. Gay Ireland 2009 will also be held on that same day.

"It would have been an honour to attend the Philippine finals, but because of the schedule clash, I can't," he said.

And his message to the Filipino people?

"I'm very moved by the openness and warmth of the Filipino people. Your young men embody the noble attributes of compassion, strength and unity and I'm confident that the Filipino delegate to Mr. Gay World will leave a lasting impression on the judges and other delegates," Max ended.
