'In The Name Of Love' box-office gross: P15 million on its opening day

"In The Name of Love", which stars Aga Muhlach and Angel Locsin, has earned a high P15-million during its opening day last Wednesday, May 11, 2011, according to SNN's news report last night.

That definitely calls for an early victory party for the whole cast, staff and crew of "In The Name of Love", which is directed by Olivia Lamasan.

The P15 million opening gross of "In The Name of Love" is the same as the opening gross of "Catch Me, I'm In Love" and "Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak" which were shown early this year.

Aga's previous movie "A Love Story" shown in 2007 and Direk Olive's 2009 film "In My Life" also both earned P15 million during their 1st day in the Philippine box-office.

Congrats Star Cinema for another box-office hit!

'Catch Me I'm In Love' movie gross as of 2nd week: P89.73 million

'Catch Me I'm In Love' has ruled the Philippine Box Office for the second weekend.

For the period March 30 to April 3, 2011, 'Catch Me I'm In Love' earned P25.93 million, according to the figures from Box Office Mojo.

Though the movie's 2nd-weekend gross was 50% down from its opening weekened, it's still on top of the box-office chart despite threats from new releases "Hop", an animated film, and "Source Code" starring heart-throb Jake Gyllenhaal.

So far, Catch Me I'm In Love, which pairs up Sarah Geronimo and Gerald Anderson for the first time, now has an accumulated gross revenues of P89.73 million after 12 days: P52.95 million in its first 5 days (1st week) and P36.78 during the next 7 days (2nd week).

Meanwhile, "Who's That Girl" which stars Anne Curtis and Luis Manzano, and opened 3 weeks ahead of "Catch Me I'm In Love" took in P58.31 million gross revenues in 5 weeks.

Box Office: "My Amnesia Girl" earns a 5-day opening gross of P43.9 million

Star Cinema's "My Amnesia Girl" faced a strong competition during its opening week, thus failing to land on top of the box office charts.

The movie, which pairs up John Lloyd Cruz and Toni Gonzaga for the first time, earned P43,863,700 for its first 5 days (November 24 to 28, 2010), and placed only 2nd to the mega hit "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1", which had P46.9 million on its 2nd weekend, according to figures released by BoxOfficeMojo.com.

But the said 5-day opening gross of "My Amnesia Girl" is still considered strong, because it's the 4th biggest opening amongst Filipino movies this 2010.

As of Wednesday night (December 1), according to SNN, the movie already reached the P100-m mark.

Though it appears to be an exaggerated amount as of this moment, it's actually not a doubt that the movie will reach P100-M and become the 4th Pinoy film to achieve it this year.

"Till My Heartaches End" wins box office

Star Cinema's "Till My Heartaches End" has topped the Philippine box office on its opening week.

According to Box Office Mojo, the Kim Chiu-Gerald Anderson movie collected a gross receipts of P33,022,367 or P33.02 million for its opening week (October 27 to 31, 2010) good enough to rule the box office charts.

Viva Films' "Petrang Kabayo" who was on top for 2 weeks, has bowed down to #2 on its 3rd week, but the movie has already reached the P100-million mark in 19 days, and not in 6 days as what Viva was claiming.

The first 5-day gross of "Till My Heartaches End" was way below than the gross revenue of Kimerald's previous movie "Paano Na Kaya" shown in January.

"Petrang Kabayo" so strong in the box office

Viva Films' "Petrang Kabayo" is way too strong in the box office, collecting more than P50million on its first 5 days.

The movie which stars Vice Ganda and is directed by Wenn Deramas earned P53,240,879 for its opening week or first 5 days (October 13 to 17, 2010), becoming the 2nd highest Opening Week Gross for 2010.

1. Miss You Like Crazy P67.6M
2. Petrang Kabayo P53.2M
3. You to Me
Are Everything P48.8M
4. Hating Kapatid P42.3M
5. Here Comes
the Bride P42.1M
6. Paano Na Kaya P41.4M

It's amazing because it was just easy for "Petrang Kabayo" to reach P50M while the two recent releases by Star Cinema ("Sa Yo Lamang" and "I Do") were having a hard time to reach at least 50 million pesos even after many weeks of running in theaters.

It's now safe to say that Petrang Kabayo will be the 3rd Filipino movie to reach P100M mark after "Miss You Like Crazy" and "Here Comes The Bride".

Here's the latest box-office ranking (figures courtesy of Box Office Mojo):

With above P100M gross:
1. Miss You Like Crazy (P143.25M)
2. Here Comes the Bride (P117.16M)

6. Hating Kapatid (P76.56M)
7. In Your Eyes (P62.78M)
8. Cinco (P61.31M)
9. Petrang Kabayo (P53.24M) as of Oct. 17

"White House" gives way to "Petrang Kabayo"

Regal Films' "White House" has moved its playdate, from October 13 to October 20.

It's a good move by Regal Films to change playdate so it could not clash against Viva Films' "Petrang Kabayo" which will be shown on October 13.

Probably, they've realized that it won't be beneficial to both Pinoy movies if shown on the same date and even if they both believe that their respective movie will perform better than the other in the box office.

But before those two films, Star Cinema's "I Do" will open first in theaters on September 29.

And the big question is: Which of the three films will be a smash hit in the box office and reach the 100-million mark? Or none of them?

Pinoy films are actually suffering low revenues in the box office during the last 4 months.

Six mainstream movies were shown from June to September but none of them finished close to P100M.

The latest movies to be shown are Regal's Mamarazzi and Star Cinema's Sa 'yo Lamang and despite different playdates, both are finding it hard to reach even just the P50-million mark.

Box Office: "Sa 'yo Lamang" grossed P22.18 million on its 1st week

Star Cinema's latest movie "Sa 'yo Lamang" grossed only P22.18 million for its first week (September 1 to 5).

That's way too low for a Star Cinema film!

The box office figure (courtesy of Box Office Mojo) is kinda unexpected because it's a star-studded film supposedly hoping to duplicate the success of Star Cinema's family drama in 2000, "Tanging Yaman", which was a huge hit.

It's also disappointing because "Sa 'yo Lamang" is topbilled by Bea Alonzo, who was a Box Office Queen in 2007 for "One More Chance" and possibly
this 2010 with "Miss You Like Crazy".

The P22.18M gross revenue is among the lowest opening week gross for a Filipino movie in 2010 and the 2nd lowest for Star Cinema, just behind "I'll Be There" which had P21.76 during its first week run.

But good thing though that the movie has been graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board and it's most likely to reap awards in the future.

Here's an update on the box office rankings of the Pinoy films shown in 2010:

With above P100M gross:
1. Miss You Like Crazy
2. Here Comes the Bride
3. You To Me Are Everything

P50M and above but below P100M:
4. Babe, I Love You
5. Paano Na Kaya
6. Hating Kapatid

9. I'll Be There
10. Working Girls

"Hating Kapatid" pulls in P42.3M and not P75M on its first week

Why did Viva Films report to Stir.ph a very high P75M 5-day gross for "Hating Kapatid"?

Box Office Mojo has the updated box office receipts last week and it says that the Judy Ann Santos-Sarah Geronimo starrer "Hating Kapatid" had $927,281 or P42.3 million from July 21 to 25, and not P75M as reported by Viva.

It settled on #2 behind the foreign film "The Last Airbender"
which grossed $1.2M or P56.1M.

That means, "Miss You Like Crazy" is still the Philippine movie with
the highest 5-day gross this 2010 with P67.6M, followed by "You to Me
Are Everything" (P48.8M), then "Hating Kapatid" (P42.3M), "Here Comes
the Bride" (P42.1M) and "Paano Na Kaya" (P41.4M).

Over-all, only three movies so far have reached the P100M mark.

Here's an updated ranking of Pinoy movies shown this 2010:

With above P100M gross:
1. Miss You Like Crazy
2. Here Comes the Bride
3. You To Me Are Everything

P50M and above but below P100M:

5. Paano Na Kaya
