The eight (8) official entries for the 34th Annual Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2009) have been revealed yesterday, July 3, by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the organizer of the 2009 MMFF.
As expected, Vic Sotto, the undisputed King of MMFF, is up once again with a new entry entitled "Ang Darling Kong Aswang", his 8th consecutive MMFF entry.
And during the last 8 years, his movies could either finish as the topgrosser or the 2nd topgrosser.
The Eat Bulaga! host will also battle it out with Wowowee host Willie Revillame, who also has an entry this year, a movie with the Comedy King Dolphy.
After 5 years, Vic and ex-girlfriend Kris Aquino will be together once more in a festival.
Kris will star in Star Cinema's official entry "Ikaw Na Nga".
During the 2004 MMFF, Vic's movie "Enteng Kabisote" was the festival topgrosser while Kris' film "So Happy Together" was the 2nd highest.
Kris will not only be competing against "one" former boyfriend. Phillip Salvador, another ex-boyfriend of Kris, is in the cast of "Panday", which is also one of the official entries. (Truly exciting!)
As usual, three Regal Films entries are competing in the 2009 MMFF: "Nieves: The Engkanto Slayer", "Shake, Rattle & Roll XI" and "Mano Po 6: My Mother".
Marian Rivera can now be called as the Princess of MMFF. It's already her 3rd consecutive time to be part of the festival.
In 2007, Marian starred in the MMFF entries "Bahay Kubo" and "Desperadas", while in 2008, she was in "Shake, Rattle & Roll X" and "Desperadas 2".
Back in 2005, she was also part of the MMFF entry "Engteng Kabisote 2: Okay Ka Fairy Ko, The Legend Continues".
After "Crying Ladies" in 2003, Sharon Cuneta is back with her very first Regal movie "Mano Po 6".
Sen. Bong Revilla, the second "King of MMFF" next to Vic, is also joining the festival with "Ang Panday".
Revilla is doing an MMFF entry every after two years: Captain Barbell 2 (2003), Exodus (2005) and Resiklo (2007).
It's interesting to note that four major stars from the 8 official entries have been named "Box Office Kings and Queens": Vic Sotto, Sharon Cuneta, Dolphy, Kris Aquino.
