UAAP Season 74 Opening Ceremony (video)

The UAAP Season 74 has kicked off Saturday afternoon, July 9, 2011, with UAAP Season 71 to 73 Champion Ateneo De Manila University as the host.

And unlike in the previous years' opening ceremony, the UAAP Season 74 Opening was held outdoors, at the Marikini Sports Park, and as expected, it rained.

Some non-Ateneans reportedly blamed the host university for holding the Olympic-inspired opening ceremony outdoors and for not anticipating the possibility of rain especially in this rainy month of July.

The UAAP Season 74 Opening Games will be held tomorrow, Sunday, at 1 PM (FEU vs La Salle) and at 3 PM (Ateneo vs Adamson University) in Araneta Coliseum.

UAAP Season 74 Opening this July 9 | Meet La Salle Green Archers' roster of players

Simon Atkins will still be the Team Captain of the De La Salle Green Archers in the upcoming UAAP Season 74.

It's now Simon Atkin's 5th Year to play for the Green Archers and for his final year, he will be leading the team in getting back the UAAP championship title which was won by the team 4 years ago during Simon's debut year in UAAP.

Simon is the only one playing on his 5th year among La Salle Green Archers players and we shall see if he will have a great final year in UAAP.

Aside from Atkins, returning players for DLSU Green Archers are Luis Alfonso "Luigi" De la Paz, Jarelan Tampus, Enrique Raphael "Aiki" Herrera, Philip "Papot" Paredes, Almond Vosotros, Mark Jovet Mendoza, Alvin Joseph "Maui" Villanueva, Joshua David Webb, Samuel Joseph "Sam" Marata, Martin John Reyes and Yutien Andrada.

Luis Alfonso "LA" Revilla will make a grand comeback for the Green Archers this UAAP Season 74 after missing out two seasons.

But definitely the team's new additions next season excite me the most. These photos would tell you why...

I hope UAAP Season 74 will bring back the parade of players with their muses. Last year, there were no muses, but instead achievers from each school marched alongside the team captains.

For DLSU, Team Captain Simon Atkins escorted Enchong Dee during Season 73 Opening and let's all hope that for the new season, muses will be back and Atkins definitely would love to have Kim Chiu on his side as his muse. (Posible kaya?)

The UAAP Season 74 Opening Ceremonies will be held this July 9, that's a Saturday, at the Marikini Sports Center and will be aired live still on Studio 23.

It's a 3-peat! ADMU is UAAP Season 73 Men's Basketball Champion

The Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles have claimed the championship title of the UAAP Men's Basketball for the 3rd consecutive year.

It's a 3-peat as they say - three and repeat!

After winning Game 1, the Blue Eagles won again over Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws during Game 2 of the UAAP Season 73 finals held today, September 30, in Araneta Coliseum.

FEU actually started the game right by collecting 22 points during the 1st Quarter, with a 9-point lead over Ateneo, but the latter proved in the remaining 3 quarters that as the defending champion, they're not that easy to beat.

The final scores were 65-62.

Points earned in every quarter
1st Quarter: ADMU 13 FEU 22
2nd Quarter: ADMU 17 FEU 9
3rd Quarter: ADMU 22 FEU 19
4th Quarter: ADMU 13 FEU 12

Ateneo's Ryan Buenafe was the best player and the Finals MVP with 23 big points, his highest score ever this season. He won P30,000 cash prize from PSBank. (Did you see it? He also won a sweet and gentle kiss from teammate Raymond Austria!)

ADMU Blue Eagles were all prepared for their 3-peat victory as they wore white t-shirts with "Three-peat Champions" printed on them. (I also like to have that shirt!)

FEU Tamaraws' Jens Knuttel: We'll prove to them we're not gays

The FEU Tamaraws and the ADMU Blue Eagles will face again today, September 30, for the Game 2 of the UAAP Season 73 Finals.

If FEU wins, then Game 3 will take place this Saturday, October 2, but if FEU loses, then Ateneo will be the UAAP Season 73 Champion.

That's why FEU players are feeling the pressure to make it good in Game 2 after a disappointing performance of their team in Game 1 last
Saturday.

The FEU management and their coaches reportedly called them "gays"
after their Game 1 performance.

What FEU management and coaches said was actually a bit offensive to the gay people. Just because they lost, they're gonna call their
players as gays? Does it follow that if you fail or you lose on one
thing, you're gay already?

The Tamaraws are out to prove today that they are not gays. Inquirer
Sports quoted FEU's #14 player Jens Knuttel last Saturday saying,
"According to management, we were gays playing in court pero papatunayan namin sa Thursday na 'di kami bading."

That's right Jens, prove them wrong!

UAAP Season 73 Finals Game 1: Ateneo Blue Eagles beat FEU Tamaraws, with 72-49

Both the ADMU (Ateneo) Blue Eagles and FEU Tamaraws were agressive during Game 1 of the UAAP Season 73 Finals held this afternoon at the Araneta Coliseum.

But Ateneo proved too strong for FEU as they dominated all quarters of the game and finished with a big 23-lead.

The final scores were 49-72 with Ateneo's Kirk Long as the Best Player scoring 14 points.

Points earned in every quarter:
1st Q: FEU 8, ADMU 26
2nd Q: FEU 13, ADMU 16
3rd Q: FEU 17, ADMU 18
4th Q: FEU 11, ADMU 12

It was a major major disappointment on the part of the Tamaraws because they're leading this season, they won over the Eagles in their past 2 games before the finals and sport analysts picked them to win the finals.

But only to show on today's game that they're not yet ready to beat the defending the champion, atleast on Game 1 of the best-of-3 finals and they still have Game 2 happening on Thursday to redeem themselves and prove that they're the best team of the UAAP Season 73.

As I've said in my previous posts, Ateneo already has the championship experience being in the finals for the 3rd straight year now and it won't be easy for FEU to win this year's championship.

UAAP Season 73 Finals: Ateneo vs FEU - Game 1 to be aired on ABS-CBN

The UAAP Season 73 Men's Basketball Tournament is about to end with the face-off of Ateneo Blue Eagles and FEU Tamaraws in the best-of-3 finals starting this Saturday, September 25, 2010.

The Game 1 of the UAAP Season 73 finals will be held at the Araneta Coliseum at 4:20 PM.

ABS-CBN Channel 2 (and not Studio 23) will air Game 1 starting at 4PM right after ELive but Studio 23 (not ABS-CBN 2) will air Game 2 happening on Thursday, September 30, 2010.

Game 3 will be telecast again live on ABS-CBN the next Saturday, October 2, only if necessary.

The FEU Tamaraws is the favorite to win the UAAP Season 73. With a record of 12 wins and only 2 losses as against Ateneo Blue Eagles' 10 wins and 4 losses, the Tamaraws definitely is a strong force to beat especially that the team has the 2 awardees of the season: RR Garcia (Most Valuable Player) and Terence Romero (Rookie of the Year).

FEU has also beaten Ateneo during their first and second face-offs before the semi-finals, but not easy victories though 'coz the scores were so close: 72-69 and 74-72.

It would still be hard for FEU to beat Ateneo, the defending champion who's now on it's 3rd straight year in the finals unlike FEU who last played in the finals 5 years ago. While the current roster of FEU is playing in the finals for the first time, some players from Ateneo already have experienced playing in the finals and they definitely know how to play it better this time.

Thus, we can't really say that one team is already winning. Both FEU and Ateneo still have equal chances in winning the UAAP Season 73 championship.

UAAP Season 73: DLSU beats FEU | UP loses again for the 12th time

Nothing much exciting happened today in UAAP Season 73 Men's Basketball, except that De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers scored a major win against Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws.

FEU is currently the leading team, previously with 9 wins and just 1 loss, but after losing to DLSU today, FEU's new record is 9-2.

It was a major major win for DLSU, who scored 80 points as agains FEU with 66 points.

Meanwhile, UP Fighting Maroons still could not score a victory for this season. They faced UST today but only to have their 12th loss.

Ateneo Blue Eagles suffers "major major" loss to UE Red Warriors

The Ateneo Blue Eagles has suffered a major major loss to UE Red Warriors during their game held 4PM today in Araneta Coliseum.

It was a very close fight that UE's final point lead over Ateneo was only 2 points: 62-60.

Ateneo now has 3 losses with 8 wins and is tied in 2nd place with Adamson Falcons, who also now has 8 wins and 3 losses after they beat UP Maroons during the 2PM Game.

It was indeed a major major loss for Ateneo because they could have qualified already for the semis if they won in the said game against UE.

Yes, Enchong and Simon appeared together at the UAAP Season 73 2010-11 Opening
in Araneta Coliseum.

De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers' Team Captain Simon Atkins
was escorted by Enchong, who's a champion swimmer from La Salle,
during the team's introduction much to the delight of the fans in the
venue.

Why Enchong? And where were the muses?

But it was a "double hotness". Even the other teams' fans cheered for the DLSU because of the two's grand entrance.

And it seemed like Enchong served as a lucky charm for Atkins who led his team during the opening game with the UP Maroon Fighters.

Green Archers scored 80 points as against the Maroons' 62 points. And Simon Atkins was the highest pointer of the with 20 points.
