Lee DeWyze has just won in the finale of American Idol Season 9, held Wednesday night, May 26, 2010 at the Nokia Theater in L.A. (It was shown here in the Philippines via GMA 7, Thursday morning.)
Lee is a 24-year-old paint salesman from Illinois.
He's considered the dark horse of the competition. He started out not the best contestant but he ended up as the best of them all, beating early favorite Crystal Bowersox, who placed 2nd to him.
Among Lee Dewyze's best performances were when he sang "Hallelujah", "Simple Plan" and "That's Life".
Despite being deserving, Lee Dewyze himself didn't expect to win. When asked by host Ryan Seacrest how he feels as the American Idol Season 9, Lee said, "I don't know. This is amazing. Oh my God! I can't believe it."
This year's finale was a star-studded event as it was also a farewell special for judge Simon Cowell, who will no longer judge in the next season. Performers tonight included Christina Aguilera, Chicago, Bee Gees, Janet Jackson and the surprise of the night Bret Michaels, who has just recovered from brain hemorrhage.
Also there were Season 9's Top 12 contestants (great seeing Tim Urban again) and the past seasons' winners (except for Season 7's David Cook) and finalists. (David Archuleta was among them, but Adam Lambert wasn't there.)
